One hundred and two
Superliner I coaches, 48

Superliner II coaches were
built for Amtrak. The
standard Superliner coach
has 62 seats upstairs in
addition to 12 seats downstairs.
he lower-level coach seating
is handicapped accessible,
with space for one or two
wheelchairs. The coach-
baggage combination coaches
naturally have only upstairs
seating. he Superliner coaches
typically have four unisex toilets (one with a changing room), an accessible toilet, and a dedicated women’s restroom on the lower level as well as baggage racks.
Lounge Car
“Lounge Café” cars, as they were irst called in the 1970s, are today’s Lounge Cars. They have wide windows that provide a clear view of the train course. Given their distinctive wide windows that wrapped upward into the ceiling, Lounge Cars became “Sightseer Lounge” cars. Plentiful swiveling chairs and love seats by the window are for pleasant sightseeing.
Superliner lounge cars once
had an operating wet bar on
the upper level. his function
had been consolidated with
that of the snack bar on the
lower level, but during peak
travel seasons, for certain
routes, the wet bar would serve as a podium for volunteer rangers of the National Park Service to speak about the state’s Trails & Rails program.
