The U.S. Supreme Court is the seat of the judicial branch and the only court specifically created by the Constitution. The American justice system also includes 13 federal courts of appeal
and 95 federal district courts. he chief justice of the United States and the associate justices appointed by the President compose the Supreme Court, with oicial headquarters in
Washington, D.C.

State Government
American state government resembles federal government in that it follows the same pattern of division of power among the executive, legislative and judicial branches. State governments concern themselves with a number of matters within state borders, including the state criminal code; and working conditions within the state; internal communications; regulations relating to business, industry, public and property utilities.

State governments are required by the federal government to legislate only those laws that abide by the Constitution or laws and
treaties of the United States. Overlaps have been observed
between state and federal authorities, especially relating to health,
education, welfare, transportation, and housing and urban
