Vancouver, BC-Seattle-Tacoma-Portland-Salem–Eugene (Amtrak Cascades)

Beginning across the border in Vancouver, BC, the Amtrak Cascades train takes you along a route that is surrounded by the dramatic scenic beauty for which the northwest of the North American continent is famed. It is one of Amtrak’s shortest routes, covering just 752 kilometres (467 mi), but with around 850,000 passengers welcomed on board every year, it is one of the most loved.

Named for the Cascade Range that lines the eastern side of the route, passengers are spoiled with truly awe-inspiring scenery from start to finish. From Vancouver to Seattle, the train hugs the placid waters of the Salish Sea and Puget Sound, while from Tacoma, it continues south under the shadow of the snow-covered peaks of Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens.

Near Portland, you can catch a perfect view of the great Columbia River Gorge before progressing along the fertile central corridor to Eugene, with Mt Hood standing majestically to the east.

A popular choice for those travelling for business as well as pleasure, the Amtrak Cascades boasts sleek, European-style trains with spacious seating, the highest levels of comfort and service, superb viewing from Superliner Cars, laptop outlets and secure bike storage.

In the Bistro Car, indulge in fresh, regional cuisine, complete with wine and microbrews, or simply relax with one of the great coffees so synonymous with Seattle. Business Class passengers get priority boarding and de-boarding, and complimentary newspapers, but for everyone the Amtrak Cascades offers a rail experience that is second to none.
