Your Home Away from Home
Travelling is one of the many joys in life, enabling one to get to know both the world and oneself. All modes of travel offer the opportunity of a lifetime, but few allow one to breathe in the wonders of new surroundings quite as much as a leisurely train journey or a gentle ocean cruise.
However, a train tour and an ocean cruise are two very different ways to travel, and give two distinct experiences. A cruise ship, especially a luxury liner, offers activities geared to group entertainment, with many opportunities to participate
in ship-initiated socializing. An on-board amusement itinerary fills up the entire cruise period.
Meantime, travelling by train gives one the option to enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds encountered en route, yet also allows travellers to treat those moments
as their own personal experience. On-board entertainment is sparsely scheduled and only as appropriate. After their private time, passengers may share their experience with other passengers in areas designated for socializing.
Your Friendly VIA Rail Crew
Every VIA train is staffed by an amiable, hard-working, energetic crew who has undergone rigorous training to ensure a safe, comfortable and satisfying journey for everyone. All crew members met stringent qualifications and underwent detailed
skills assessments before they were deployed to various posts on board.
A VIA Service Manager checks his watch to verify departure time.
Engineers — Pulling the train are two locomotive engineers who operate the engines and ensure a smooth journey from the point of departure to the final stop. Passengers have the engineers to thank for a trouble-free, on-time arrival at their destinations.
Service Managers — The service manager is responsible for the passengers’ safety and the train’s security. Together with the assistant service coordinator, he/she gathers passengers’ tickets, sells tickets and assists accommodation upgrading on board, and makes certain that passengers board and detrain safely.
Dining Car Attendants — Another group of dedicated and diligent staff can be found in the dining areas. VIA Rail chefs, who are products of the renowned Culinary Institute of Canada, prepare nourishing and delectable meals for serving by its diligent maitre d’ and
service attendants.
Sleeping Car Attendants — Passengers can anticipate a comfortable time on board courtesy of service
attendants who take care of their needs. In overnight
trains, they amazingly transform seats into
comfy beds and assist in making your bed in the morning. All amenities for Sleeper
class bedrooms are
