2928 Pre-Boarding Checklist
Pre-Boarding Checklist
The conductors stand by and wait by the station platform to welcome guests. Passengers with any concerns or requests should speak to a conductor; they can also seek boarding assistance from the conductors or from any of the car attendants, all of whom are known for their friendliness.
Check-In Time
It is advisable to pick up your tickets at the station and check in your luggage
at least one hour before your scheduled departure. Passengers requiring special assistance, such as those who are disabled, those using a wheelchair or walker, or those with medical conditions are advised to come to the station much earlier to receive unhurried and proper assistance.
In all instances, it is best to call Amtrak in advance for information on
the exact time your particular station opens for boarding.
Priority Boarding
Most stations give priority boarding to sleeper-class or business-class passengers. Nevertheless, passengers traveling with children, women who are pregnant, seniors, people
with disabilities and passengers with restricted mobility may also be given the same privilege. If you require any assistance, please inform the Amtrak ticket agent when you purchase your ticket.
Special Needs
Amtrak gives qualified individuals
with disabilities the option to have an accompanying attendant. Yet, if a traveler expects that they may require special care assistance on their journey (help with dressing, eating, bathing, toileting or medicating), the traveler must have an attendant who can offer such aid.
Amtrak is happy to give a reduced companion rate for anyone traveling with a disabled passenger. For further details, talk to a service representative at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or TDD/TTY (1-800-523-6590), or talk to any reservation agent at an Amtrak station.
Please understand that Amtrak’s onboard crewpersons are not obliged or allowed to supply such help to
passengers. Please keep this in mind when preparing for a trip.
During a trip, if it becomes obvious that a lone traveler needs such help, the traveler
may be required to detrain before their last stop.
Pack Smart and Travel Light
Whether you are undertaking a brief trip or a long-distance journey, it is always best to pack
light. Ensure that important items are included in your bags before the
final zip and lock. For safety and security, all bags should bear tags with
the passenger’s name, address and contact numbers. Valuables, documents, prescription medicines,
toiletries and other personal items must be included in your carry-on bags, along with maps and a good book to read, which may come in handy.
Large, heavy items and extra clothing may be packed inside check-in baggage. Two overnight (carry-on) bags should be
