13026 The Classic Coach Trip
The Classic Coach Trip
Standard Amtrak accommodation is called “coach,” where reclining aircraft-type seats with ample legroom are provided. Seats are comfortable and have trays, reading lamps, and sometimes a fold-out leg and footrest. The seats face the direction the train is traveling, while other sections can be rotated. These seats are ideal for families and group travelers.
fTffTffTAfter the conductor collects your ticket, a paper with your destination written on it will be posted above your seat to confirm that place for you. Do not confuse the seating confirmation by switching places. If you need to change your seat, inform a coach attendant or conductor, who will help you settle in a more comfortable location.
Front Seats
Find the most comfortable place to sit. The view at the front end of the car is a little blocked, thus the seats further back are better. Better still, get a seat where there are no obstructions or one with few people seated nearby. Seats near the middle of a coach are a safe distance away from washroom foot traffic and are ideal spots for snatching ample winks.
Overnight Traveling
Since trains get cooler at night, bring a blanket or a large beach towel for warmth. If you overlooked bringing one, Amtrak sells small blankets at $10 on board. Amtrak provides small pillows on several
routes; for added comfort a bigger pillow would be a sensible addition to your baggage. If you dislike carrying bulky things in your luggage, just bring along a pillowcase that can hold two small train pillows.
Amtrak California’s Pacific Surfliner
The Surfliner cars consist of double- decker units comparable to Amtrak’s long-distance Superliners, yet fashioned near completely
as coaches.
Automatic Doors
Exist are designed 10 inches above the station platform allowing you to step
on or off the train with ease rather than wait for a conductor to lower and raise train steps, as is presently required.
